Pixvae (COL/FR)
Pixvae is constantly evolving in search of a balance between the festive essence of currulao, this traditional Afro-Colombian music, and the lights ignited by the pioneers of Lyon's musical underground. The name of this new explosion, "Oì Vé", sounds like an invitation to dance and resounds from Cali to Lyon. At the crossroads between Africa, the Atlantic and the Pacific, bandleader Romain Dugelay has put together a 7-piece ensemble that articulates the continuous fusion tradition of the music of Colombia, laying down this new repertoire with a focus on the marimba de chonta, the central instrument of the currulao. With his long-time partners (Léo Dumont on drums & Damien Cluzel on guitar) from the Kouma Power Trio, the saxophones and keys of Romain Dugelay meet the marimba of Juan Carlos Arrechea and Israël Quinones on congas and vocals. The former is brought to push the rhythms and sounds of his instrument to the limits of jazz and rock. The second adds his voice and rhythms to the two cantadores: Margaux Delatour, who has been with the project from the beginning, and Jennifer " Xiomora " Torres, who is only now appearing in the project. The latter three form the basis for melodic works with original lyrics that are a modern reinterpretation of themes from the currulao. This band guarantees a firework of Afro-columbian rhythms, unique polyphonic canon-like singing and danceable songs between Latin rock and jazz.Tickets: KUPFticket.com
