Culinary route - cheese and herbs at the Alpine dairy

The Zahmer Kaiser, with its rugged peaks, sends long forested ridges down into the Inn Valley. One of these ridges hides its most valuable treasures. You can reach Gasthof Kölnberg on Buchberg from Ebbs either with the hiking bus (once a week) or with a private car. A knowledgeable guide then shows the way into the Kaiser's realm, and reveals the secrets of lady's mantle, Turk's cap lilies and bloodwort. Delicious leaves and flowers are put in the backpack. You head along a high path through the Alpine meadow toward the impressive Bergwirtschaft Aschinger Alm. Bees buzz around the pine house above the alm terrace – a view through the glass into their waxy world is safe, and you can enjoy exciting stories about the fascinating bee glue propolis, which was even used to embalm mummies. The herbs you collected are mixed with cream cheese or quark to make a tasty spread. They are prepared with the guide – and then everyone can have a taste. Anyone who wants a piece of alm cheese or alm salami should stop in at the Alpine dairy at Aschingeralm. Cows graze on the natural Alpine meadows at the foot of the Zahmer Kaiser, and the silage-free milk is made into delicious alm cheese according to traditional recipes and in well-tested processes.
